Overview

A master-planned community in the Ocean Beach neighborhood of San Diego, sited along the Famosa Slough. The project replaces an obsolete 1970s garden apartment complex with 772 new apartments across six small-scale neighborhoods (Altair, Lyra, Vega, Astra, Mira, and the Quonset) organized around a central promenade, main street, and park. Inspired by San Diego’s military culture, the plan weaves mutual respect, security, community, and healing into the fabric of the neighborhood through planning, architecture, amenities, landscape, and proximity to natural environments.

My contribution

—Collaborated with the project architects on the community master plan while leading design of all outdoor environmental experiences.
—Directed a range of playful, evocative, and provocative spaces and objects throughout the site, carrying military themes while looking to the future of resort-style life.
—Coordinated presentation packages and internal team management for the project.
